Why Clock Changes Unsettle Infant Schedules
Daylight saving shifts move the clock but not a baby's internal timing, and the mismatch takes days to resolve because light exposure resets the rhythm gradually.

Twice a year the clock moves and an infant's schedule does not follow it. The mismatch has a clear mechanism, and the recovery period follows from how internal timing is reset.
What the internal clock tracks
The body's daily rhythm is generated by a small region of the brain that runs on a cycle close to but not exactly twenty-four hours.
Light is the main signal that keeps it aligned, reaching the clock through a pathway from the eye that is separate from the one producing vision.
Because the clock is entrained by light rather than by clocks on walls, changing the displayed time does nothing to it directly.
Why the shift takes days to absorb
Realignment happens gradually, with the internal clock moving by a limited amount each day in response to the light it receives.
